Sarah Arden

Sarah V. Arden, PhD, is an advisor for the MTSS Center and deputy director of the National Center on Intensive Intervention. She has over twenty years’ experience supporting implementation and conducting research on MTSS in elementary and middle school settings. Her experience began as an elementary special education teacher and educational diagnostician in California, where she led MTSS implementation in a large suburban school district. In addition to her work as an educator, Dr. Arden worked at the California Department of Education providing technical assistance to districts implementing MTSS, and she supported large-scale randomized control trials investigating mechanisms to increase academic outcomes and improve the school experience for students with disabilities at the University of Texas at Austin. Dr. Arden regularly presents at national and international conferences and has published numerous book chapters and peer-reviewed articles focused on implementation of MTSS, intensive intervention, development of high-quality IEPs, special education service delivery, systems change and alignment, and improving outcomes for students with disabilities.
