Sarah Benz

Sarah Benz, PhD, provides technical assistance and professional learning to states and school districts on data-based individualization, inclusion, and MTSS. She has unique expertise in significant disproportionality, as she has provided professional learning on inequity to dozens of districts and schools. She is also a leader in school improvement for disproportionality, as she’s secured over $9 million in funding on projects related to inequity. She also provides leadership and technical assistance through the National Center on Intensive Intervention, the National Center on Systemic Improvement, and various Texas state projects. Prior to joining AIR, Dr. Benz supported research projects where she collaborated with multiple elementary schools to implement MTSS for academics, behavior, and social-emotional learning. She also taught middle special education for 6.5 years and is a former district director of special education. She earned her PhD from the University of Texas at Austin.
