Considerations for the Fall: Applying The Essential Elements of Data Literacy to Respond to Student and System Needs

What impact has school closure and disruption to instruction had on student learning? What data can be used to help plan instruction that will meet all student’s needs and support decision-making for system-wide changes? Educators, district leaders and State Education Agencies (SEAs) are asking these question as they prepare to re-open schools after closure due to COVID-19.

How Can We Ensure IEP Teams Provide the Most Intensive Supports?

Teams are a vital part of an effective multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) across both academics and behavior as well as special education. Making connections across the various teams used in MTSS and special education can be challenging. This resource from NCII and the PBIS Center provides information about how DBI can support IEP implementation and a table with key considerations for teams working across the MTSS system.

Data Rich, Information Poor? Making Sense of Progress Monitoring Data to Guide Intervention Decisions

This webinar, led by Dr. Lynn Fuchs of Vanderbilt University and Dr. Lee Kern of Lehigh University, addresses a challenge faced by many teachers: feeling inundated by data while struggling to find useful information to guide intervention decision-making. The webinar focuses on: (a) common progress monitoring measures in academics and behavior, (b) key considerations for optimizing data collection, and (c) structured questions for analyzing graphed progress monitoring data patterns.

Building capacity and improving student outcomes with DBI: Wyoming’s implementation story

This fourteen minute video, developed by NCII in partnership with the Wyoming Department of Education and staff and students from Laramie County School District # 1, shares Wyoming’s journey in building the capacity of educators to implement data-based individualization (DBI) to improve academic and behavior outcomes for students with disabilities as part of their state systemic improvement plan (SSIP).

What is Intensive Intervention?

Since 2011 the National Center on Intensive Intervention (NCII) has worked to build the capacity of state and local education agency personnel, university faculty, practitioners and other stakeholders to support the implementation of intensive intervention in reading, mathematics, and behavior for students with severe and/or persistent learning and behavioral needs.

Tools to Support Intensive Intervention Data Meetings

NCII has created a series of tools to help teams establish efficient and effective individual student data meetings. These include sample agendas, note taking forms, facilitator materials, and problem solving tools. It is critical that these meetings are driven by data, occur regularly, and use an efficient, consistent process that allows participants to review progress and make intervention decisions for students.

Introduction to Intensive Intervention

The National Center on Intensive Intervention (NCII) developed this self-paced module to increase users' knowledge of intensive intervention and data-based individualization (DBI). The module defines intensive intervention and DBI, describes how intensive intervention fits within a tiered system such as MTSS, RTI, or PBIS, demonstrates how intensive intervention can provide a systematic process to deliver specialized instruction for students with disabilities, and includes two case examples to allow viewers to apply new knowledge.
